Cretinism in Mexico

Cretinism is a severe developmental disorder caused by thyroid hormone deficiency in infancy and early childhood, resulting in stunted growth, intellectual disability, and other metabolic complications. It is now largely preventable through newborn screening and iodine supplementation programs.
