Testicular feminization, now referred to as androgen insensitivity syndrome, is a condition where individuals with XY chromosomes have reduced or absent responsiveness to androgens, resulting in female external genitalia and reproductive tract development. This is a disorder of sex development with hormonal and genetic components.
